Read Matthew 22:1-10.

What do we learn from Jesus on Tuesday?

First, Jesus knows what it’s like to have a long day.  Tuesdays are often long days for me – how about you?  Jesus understands.  The gospels tell us more about what happened on Tuesday than any other day of this week until Thursday evening and Friday morning. For the full account, read Mark 11:20-13:37.

Second, Jesus has an incredible sense of timing.  His confrontation with the religious leaders reaches its climax on this day – but that’s OK.  It’s time.

Third, Jesus even in his darkest night knows what’s really important – love God and love your neighbor.  That’s what it’s all about, whatever else we do.

Fourth, Jesus’ words in Mark 13:33 still echo – “Be on guard!  Be alert!  You do not know when that time will come.”  Life is short for us individually, and we really don’t know when the end of the age will dawn upon us.  Be ready to face your Maker at any time.

Lord Jesus, on my most challenging days, give me clarity, courage, and perseverance in following your calling.  Amen.
