DEVOTIONS
Reading Luke’s account of Jesus’ life is quite humbling.  Luke clearly wants us to know how dependent Jesus was on prayer.
He was praying at his baptism when the Father’s voice spoke from heaven (3:21).
He prayed all night before choosing the Twelve (6:12).

It’s been more than 13 years since we hired Laura Owens as Corinth’s Preschool Director.  It was a great decision!

It’s more important to be needy than to be right.

Indignant
One of the things that strikes me first about the story we read this morning from Mark’s gospel is that it seems everybody is mad.

I ordered this book to help someone else.  I didn’t expect it to deal with me.
“No one is truly free from attachment,” Gerald May writes on page 40.  His list of addictions is in two parts. 
First, attraction addictions include the obvious – drinking, drugs, sex.  But what about addictions to friends, humor, neatness, pets, [...]

It’s like Christmas in October.  Only better.
Christmas celebrations, as we all know and complain, often lost the origin and meaning.  We can only blame ourselves.  The Church itself began to overemphasize Christmas long before modern culture commercialized it.
